Status

The Challenge

The pre-owned car market is populated by many online dealers, offline dealers and local agents. We needed to find a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) for Yescar so that they could stand out from their competition and would be known for their services.

Choosing the right car is an important decision to make and it is crucial to share all the details about the car’s history and its current condition. Our main challenge was to understand what factors people consider before buying a car and how to illustrate them in a way that people find appealing.

Yescar is a platform where people come to buy or sell their cars. It connects buyers to sellers and only charges a small service fee. To understand their market better, we did competitor research to learn what services other similar companies are providing and to understand what’s working and what can be worked upon to provide better services. Our client had a strong vision to make selling or buying a car hassle-free and we were focused on fulfilling his vision.

Define

We built the product from scratch, we started by designing the face of the company i.e. the Logo. While designing the product we took the mobile-first approach because during our research we found that most people were viewing the cars on their phones. We designed the Progressive Web App that could work on Web, Android and iOS and was later was built using React and Node.js.

We spoke to a couple of people to understand what factors are necessary for them to make a positive decision while buying a car. We also understood that most users spoke vernacular languages, hence to make it easy for them to understand we drafted a copy that was simple and understandable.

Design

We began the project by designing the logo, it was inspired by traditional car logos that had a metallic finish to it. Yescar’s main motto was to engrave the following emotions in the user’s mind – Trust, Safety and Guarantee. We choose colours precisely to convey these emotions to the user. Our design had to be mobile-friendly and attractive so we used 3D graphics and illustrations on the application. On some pages there was a lot of information that had to be conveyed to the users, we made sure that users weren’t overwhelmed with information by creating a clean and minimal layout and emphasising important elements.

I choose Yescar to buy my first car. I connected with a guy who was selling his 2018 Innova. I had already seen the inspection report which was quite detailed and described the car exactly how it was.
