The Challenge

Understanding how the logistics fleet operates and what data points are necessary for the fleet operator to analyse and improvise the performance of the fleet was the most challenging part of this project. After analysing the data points, how to show the important data in an organised and intuitive way for operators to consume was the second challenge.

Discover

We did a competitor analysis and profiled each company by listing their features on a sheet. Our client guided us through the logistics process and pointed out needs and pain points. This helped us understand the market’s standards and some needs that weren’t fulfiled. We then drafted a user flow diagram to present a possible method of tracking and monitoring the fleet.

Define

With in-depth competitive research and discussion with our client, we understood that it was necessary to know the location of the vehicle at all times, hence a GPS tracker was used to show the live location of the vehicle. A call feature was introduced within the software to call the vehicle directly in case of an emergency. It was necessary to track every package that the vehicle carried so a barcode scanner was added to the vehicle’s tablet and goods were scanned before loading. This helped the operator to track every package in more detail and provide him with a precise estimated delivery time. To maximize the performance of the fleet it was necessary to track the health of the fleet. The operator was given timely reminders to service the vehicle. We designed the dashboard such that the operator could get a bird’s eye view and manage the whole fleet using this software. 

 

Design

The objective of this software was to efficiently deliver the fleets information and location to the operator. The visual design represents a clean, minimal, intuitive and organised interface to view all the data points on the dashboard that improves the operation of the whole process. We used a React UI Design System to build the whole dashboard so it could be developed using the same React UI Library. 

To maximize the performance of the fleet it was necessary to track the health of the fleet. The operator was given timely reminders to service the vehicle. I designed the dashboard such that the operator could get a bird’s eye view and manage the whole fleet using this software.
